Caribbean leaders express profound sadness on assassination of former Japanese PM Shinzo Abe

Caribbean: The leader of the region has expressed profound sadness about the assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who was killed while addressing the public.

The Prime Minister of Barbados – Mia Amor Mottley, expressed, “The tragic passing of former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe is deeply saddening and disturbing. The violence of any kind cannot be accepted if we are to improve the world we live in. I send condolences to Shinzo Abe’s family and friends and to the people of Japan.”

The Secretariat of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) outlined, “The Conference of Heads of Government and the entire Caribbean Community, CARICOM, are shocked and saddened by the assassination of the former Prime Minister of Japan, the Honourable Shinzo Abe.”

While expressing grief, Dominica Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit mentioned, “I am profoundly saddened by the assassination of Japanese former Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe. He was a truly inspirational statesman and leader who will be remembered for his sincere support of our small island developing states in the region.”

The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis – Dr Timothy Harris, stated, “So saddened to hear of the shooting of former Prime Minister Abe in an act that undermines the fabric of #democracy.”

Whereas, Premier of Nevis – Mark Brantley wrote, “Shocked to hear of the barbaric act of violence against former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe. Prime Minister Abe was a great friend of Latin America and the Caribbean. We in Nevis extend deepest condolences to his family and the beautiful people of Japan.”

Saint Lucian Prime Minister Philip J Pierre mentioned, “I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of the former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Our world cannot continue to be plagued by such brutal and senseless violence. On behalf of the Government and the people of Saint Lucia, I wish to extend our sincerest condolences to the family, the Government and the people of Japan. Rest well former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.”

Trinidad and Tobago Leader of Opposition Kamla Persad Bissessar, while expressing shock, stated, “I am shocked as well as deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the former Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe. The United National Congress strongly condemns all forms of political violence and stresses that violence is never the answer. Back in 2014, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited Port of Spain to develop and expand the partnership between T&T and Japan. My deepest condolences go out to the family of Mr Abe as well as to the people of Japan.”
