Canadian airline extends biweekly flight service from Toronto to Kingston

Kingston: Swoop, Canadian Airline, is now operating bi-weekly flight services from Toronto to Kingston, Jamaica. The inaugural flight From Toronto to Kingston arrived at the Norman Manley International Airport – (NMIA) on Wednesday with 142 passengers on board. 

The Acting Deputy Director of Tourism, Marketing – Peter Mullings, Canada’s High Commissioner to Jamaica – Emina Tudakovic, Executive Director, Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) – Camille Needham, and Executive Director, Jamaica Vacations Limited – Joy Roberts were present at the airport to welcome the inaugural flight.

The airline has announced that these flights would operate non-stop on Wednesday and Friday a week.  

Mullings thanked the Canadian Airline for showing confidence and expanding weekly flights to Jamaica, which will eventually assist in boosting the tourism sector of the island. 

He cited, “I think this demonstrates that there is a great opportunity for us here to really grow and take advantage of the airline coming in. It also shows that we have a lot of demand in Jamaica, not only from Canadians but also the Diaspora”. 

On the other hand, JHTA Director Needham cited, “There are so many things that are exciting and peculiar to Kingston, and we have a lot of high hopes for the success of these flights“. 

While several officials emphasized the significance of the capital city of Jamaica in the Canadian market. 

This will prove to be very helpful in enhancing the economy of the tourism sector and its GDP. 

More about Swoop – 

Swoop is a Canadian ultra-low-cost carrier – (ULCC), which is owned by WestJet. It began flights on June 20, 2018. The airline was established in Calgary and was named after WestJet’s desire to “swoop” (or jump) into the Canadian market with this new business model. 

Shortly after launch, WestJet announced that Swoop would not be based in Calgary but in another nearby market like Edmonton, Abbotsford, Hamilton or Winnipeg.
