Budget 2023: Govt of Guyana allocates $84.9 billion budget for health sector

Guyana: The government of Guyana has announced the budget for the fiscal year 2023-2024 on January 16, 2023. According to the Budget 2023, presented by the Minister of Finance, the health sector will see be budgeted with the amount of $84.9 billion.
ALLOCATIONS FOR THE HEALTH SECTOR ARE:
- $13.1 billion to advance infrastructural works for the paediatric and maternal hospital and six regional hospitals to decentralise modern healthcare into Lima. De Kindren Diamond, Enmore, Bath, and No. 75 Village.
- $1.8 billion to commence the rehabilitation expansion and reconstruction of Georgetown, New Amsterdam and Linden hospitals, as well as four telemedicine centres in Regions 1, 7, 8, and 9.
- $830 million to complete the design for and commence construction of the Bartica Regional Hospital
- $1 billion to retrofit and upgrade health centres, health posts, and other facilities across the country.
- $620 million to construct and rehabilitate health science training facilities in regions 2 and 6.
- $237 million to upgrade the Karasabal, Annal and Sand Creek health centres into district hospitals providing radiology and laboratory services.
- $2.5 billion for medical and non-medical equipment purchases in 2023 across all ten (10) administrative regions.
- Over $500 million for the training of healthcare professionals.
- More than $900 million to address non-communicable diseases, including mental health.
The government of Guyana has been working a lot for the betterment of the health and medical sector. While sharing an update on the budget, the ministry of health stated, “Improving lives today, building prosperity for tomorrow”.
