Belize: PM Briceno held meet with CABEI, signs scholarship agreement, discusses various significant issues

Belmopan, Belize: Prime Minister Johnny Briceño held a meet with the CABEI (Central American Bank for Economic Integration), where both parties held discussions regarding the implementation of the Integral Security Programme on Monday, January 17, 2022.

Potential support required to support the health sector of the country was also among the areas which were discussed during the meet. CABEI which is also known as Banco Centroamericano de Integración Económica – BCIE was led by Executive President Dr Dante Mossi, during the meet.

PM Briceno wrote on his Facebook page, citing, “Today we realized a fruitful meeting with CABEI (Central American Bank for Economic Integration) in Belize – during the Bank’s country mission. We discussed the implementation of the Integral Security Programme, a loan of US$30M”.

He further underscored the efforts of the Belizean government in boosting the health sector of the island country, adding, the administration remains vigilant in their battle against the deadliest COVID pandemic.

Furthermore, the prime minister added that his government is continuously making efforts to make advancements in the health sector, responsible for illness, specifically for HIV/AIDS and non-communicable diseases like diabetes, heart diseases, kidney, and other diseases.

A Scholarship Programme Cooperation Agreement (a grant of US$625 thousand) was also penned down during the Monday meeting, which will benefit more than 225 students. This scholarship aims to provide and assist students in completing their secondary education, in which each student will receive an amount of BZ$1000 per year for a period of 5 years.

“Education has been proven to be the main vehicle for poverty reduction and creating a strong foundation to meaningfully improve the quality of Belizeans’ lives,” PM Briceno emphasized.

This agreement will eventually enhance the island to increase its literacy rate and provide the students with quality education.

Apart from this, the meeting also witnessed valuable discussion on the potential projects for agriculture, MSMEs, renewable energy and technical assistance for other productive sectors.
