Belize: Govt warns over circulation of Forged Land Documents

Belize: Ministry of Natural Resources, Petroleum and Mining revealed that forged documents are being presented to the Lands and Survey Department as evidence of payment for land transactions, including but not limited to:

(a) the purchase price, transfer fees and other fees charged by and payable to the Lands Department

(b) forged certificates of title and lease certificates purporting to have been issued by the Land Registry.

The Ministry is also aware that certain persons, including former employees of the Lands and Survey Department, have been misrepresenting themselves to the public as having the authority to conduct business on behalf of the Department and Ministry.

Members of the public who suspect that they are in possession of forged document are asked to contact the Lands and Survey Department to have the authenticity of their documents verified. The public of Belize is warned to take note and exercise extreme caution.

Circulation of forged Land Documents can create chaos in the nation as many were dependent on lands for their trade. Anybody can cheat and take an ample amount of money from the land seekers. 

Belize encountered a spike in gasoline prices, and it upsets the people. It created tension between the residents. In the time of COVID-19, people have fewer jobs and more requirements to fulfil.

This is the most significant reason behind this forgery; people have started these kinds of acts to fulfil their needs.

Lectura Teck commented, “I agree land need to terminate and charge those involved how is that person are taking property land when you pay the least title for a year and when you go apply your land some else has it the commissioner of land need to be too it’s time with this officer of land Also reserved land has been given away.”

Another resident was asking, “Provide an example of how the forged documents look so that the public is aware if they are in possession of such documents.”
