Barbados: Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley met with the Ambassador of South Korea to Barbados, Oh Dong-il.

The Ambassador paid a courtesy call to the Prime Minister on May 2, 2022, at the Parliament of Barbados. At that time, PM Mottley expressed hope that Barbados and South Korea might work in partnership on various issues in the future.

Mottley further stated that Barbados has learnt so much from South Korea and will keep learning in the future. She further emphasised that South Korea admired the Barbadian population for the way it has used technology and become a global leader.

She further highlighted that the nation would give special focus on the areas associated with science.

PM also optimised that both the governments have been hoping that the partnership would grow deeper and deeper with the passage of time. She further took a moment to note that Barbados has built strong relations will other countries.

While having the conversation with the Ambassador of South Korea, Prime Minister Mottley highlighted the Green Climate Fund, which has been based in South Korea. The climate fund was established to assist the developing countries that are responding to climate change.

Furthermore, she hailed the excellent deeds of the Government of South Korea.

Prime Minister also extended thanks to the Government of South Korea for their strong and continuous assistance for years.

The Ambassador of South Korea took an opportunity to invite Prime Minister Mottley to attend the XV World Forestry Congress, which South Korea will host from May 2 to May 6. The congress will highlight the future of world forestry in the state.

The courtesy call was attended by Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Alies Jordan; Ambassador Lolita Applewhaite, and Second Secretary and Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Trinidad and Tobago, Jinwoo Jung.

Both countries have been sharing diplomatic relations with each other since November 15, 1977.
