This project that seeks to solve the problem of unemployment especially among the youth and ensure that young people are well equipped and ready for the job market, is expected to commence the training in September 2024.
Implemented in 2019, the Job Start Plus Programme is a coherent plan of the Barbadian government to address the problem of youth unemployment. The JSP enables youth to work on an interdependence-middle ground, whereby the job seekers are provided with a combination of customized training, counselling and job placements. Employing this multi-faceted approach enables participants to gain the skills and attitude they require for a better employability in today’s environment.
The programme also comprises two weeks of World of Work Training Workshops for trainees. These workshops include Effective Communication, Team Building and Co-Operation, Conflict Management, Handling Anger, Understanding Work Ethics, Writing of CV and Cover Letters, Job Hunting Skills and Interview Skills.
The emphasis is made on development of the participants with the idea that such training should cover not only the first employment but the overall career paths.
Equity and development are part of the overall structure of the JSP Programme. To this effect, the programme works closely with businesses in the local community to guarantee that the participants find all the support that they require to succeed. This alliance is about building a supportive community where young people can first of all acquire work experience and second of all, establish contacts throughout the company.
