Barbados: Ministry of Health confirms that COVID-19 cases in Barbados reach 1401.
Fourteen new positive cases were also reported yesterday from the 262 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory, while 15 persons were discharged from isolation.
The number of active cases now stands at 742. The new positives comprise seven men and seven women. Of these, five are individuals who would have been sent before to the Harrison Point Isolation Facility for assessment.
There were no new positive cases recorded at Her Majesty’s Prisons Dodds, so the cases there remain at 360 – 102 staff members and 258 patients.
According to health officials, Barbados has reported 1,401 cases – 553 females and 848 males, and 649 persons have redeemed. The public health laboratory has so far completed 99,799 tests.
To restrict the expansion of this lethal coronavirus, Officials have advised to follow the respective protocols. On the other hand, The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has announced that the Glebe Market at The Glebe, St. George, is now shut.
Sherlock King, Manager of Markets, stated. “With immediate effect, we have momentarily closed the market at Glebe out of an abundance of caution. One of the vendors there lately tested positive for COVID-19. In keeping with the approved protocols of the Ministry of Health and Wellness, the market is experiencing a proper sanitization procedure.”
On the other hand, Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley seeks 200,000 doses of covishield from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
She stated, “I am urgently requesting the help of your Government to have access to 200,000 doses (for 100,000 citizens) of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine being produced in your country.”
PM Motley also highlighted about India and Barbados have a long history of good relations. PM Mottley also stated, Barbados‘ economy is highly dependent on travel and tourism, and the lethal coronavirus pandemic has induced a fall of 90 percent in tourists’ arrival in 2020. This declined in government revenue and economic activity.
