Bahamas receives another shipment of 134,550 Pfizer vaccine doses from the US

Nassau, the Bahamas: The Caribbean island has received another shipment of 134,550 Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine doses from the government of the United States, which reached at Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) in Nassau on Wednesday afternoon.

Minister of Health – Michael Darville and U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Usha E. Pitts received the shipment. This shipment is a part of the United States commitment to assist the nation fight with the deadliest COVID-19 outbreak.

U.S. Chargé d’Affaires cited that, “We have been working with governmental, civic, and commercial partners on a campaign to overcome vaccine hesitancy in the Bahamas.”

Following the statement, Pitts added, “We are proud to also provide this second tranche of life-saving vaccines to make this campaign possible. By leveraging our strong partnership, we can protect our citizens, rejuvenate our economies, and overcome this pandemic”.

Earlier in the month of August, the Bahamas received the tranche of 128,700 doses. This shipment by the United States government will assist the Caribbean island in boosting its COVID-19 vaccination drive and achieving its target of herd immunity.

So far, the United States Joe Biden administration has delivered a total of over 200 million doses worldwide. Apart from this, previously in the month of July, the United States via U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) also donated four ultra-low temperature (ULT) freezers valued at over $100,000 required to store and distribute the Pfizer vaccine to the Bahamas.

In the Caribbean island, so far, 132,240 individuals that is 33.6 per cent of the total population, have been vaccinated with atleast one jab of the COVID-19 vaccine, while around 122,845 citizens(31.2 per cent of the total population) have received their second dose and are now fully vaccinated against the pandemic. More than 255,000 jabs of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the Bahamas so far.

Bahamas government is continuously encouraging its citizens to get themselves vaccinate as soon as possible and abide by the COVID-19 health protocols.
