Bahamas: Another group of Cuban Nationals were intercepted off Anguilla Cay, Cay Sal Banks by the United States Coast Guard and subsequently handed over to Bahamian authorities, declared by Bahamas Military.
While conducting patrols on Wednesday past, the United States Coast Guard Cutter USCGC CHARLES DAVID JR. Discovered and picked up the group of Cuban nationals from Anguilla Cay.
They were subsequently handed over to Her Majesty’s Bahamian Ship LEON LIVINGSTON SMITH, under Senior Lieutenant Ricardo McQueen’s command. The Cuban nationals were transported to New Providence, arriving Thursday, April 1, 2021, and were handed over to the relevant authorities. The Cuban Embassy has since been notified.
This is the fourth group of Cubans to be apprehended in recent months. USCGC Charles Sexton apprehended several Cuban nationals on board a small wooden sail vessel during the Cay Sal banks’ past weekend.
On Wednesday, March 3, six Cuban nationals were taken aboard a US Coast Guard cutter after being captured on Anguilla Cay. On Thursday, March 4, HMBS DURWARD KNOWLES spotted a capsized vessel in waters approximately three nautical miles south of Cay Sal and retrieved thirteen Cuban nationals, including a deceased male.
The foreigners were all handed to the relevant authorities for further investigation.
Besides, As a part of Commander Defence Force, Commodore, Dr Raymond King’s strategic plans for the outreach throughout the communities and strengthening community relations, the Military Police and Force Protection Unit (MPFPU) set forth on an Easter initiative to give back to the less fortunate in the community on March 31, 2021.
Led by Commander Natasha Miller, the RBDF Commanding Officer for the MPFPU, and Force Chief Petty Officer Oral Wood, the Officers and Marines team visited the Nazareth Centre for Children Millennium Gardens to spread the Easter cheer. Receiving the gifts was the Acting Administrator, Mrs Elizabeth Mackey.
The RBDF team also went to The Bahamas Children Emergency Hostel, McKinney Drive, where they left smiles on the children’s faces. Receiving the donations was Ms Andrea Gibson, Business Manager of the residence.
According to Commander Miller, her team sought to reach the hearts of children 3 to 15-yrs old with assorted gift baskets of chocolates, colouring books, dolls, and toy cars. She also estimated that approximately sixty children would receive an Easter basket this year between the two organisations.
During this solemn week for the Christian community, the Royal Bahamas Defence Force continues to work with the community with outreach initiatives.
