The Francis Nunes Jr Meet the Best in the West Fishing Tournament is brewing up the excitement for October 19, 2024, at Falmouth Harbour Marina in Antigua as participants and onlookers are getting ready for the very best experience.
Unlike last year, this year’s event combines two former tournaments making it a once in a lifetime affair as the best fishing teams, both local and international, compete against each other.
It promises to be a higher-stake affair with big rewards for this tournament. The day is quite long, with lines going in the water as early as 6 am, and there’s a final weigh-in at 4:30 pm.
The competition will be for some fighting prizes that include pretty big cash prizes in the order of $5,000 and custom-made trophies, as well as a head-on award of $2,000 set aside for the biggest Wahoo.
There are also prizes for the largest catches of Tuna, Kingfish, and Dolphin, which ensure that contestants within the event will be competing for prizes at varying levels of angling skills.
Additional to the competitive fishing, the atmosphere at Falmouth Harbour Marina is going to be thrilling. Spectators can indulge in fresh fish, music, and mouthwatering food throughout the day.
Among the main attractions for non-competitors will be the Grace Cooking Competition, in which culinary teams will vie to create the most delicious dishes out of the day’s catch. The winning team will leave with a $1,000 prize, adding a culinary flavour to the otherwise festive event.
It is as much a celebration of community and camaraderie as it is a sporting competition. The mix of locals and visitors, young and old, makes the event very inclusive, it underlines the passion of Antiguans both for fishing and food.
The organizers are going to make it a smooth experience: registration is open online, and teams can leave from any port, making it convenient for participants.
For those who shall make the pilgrimage, it is not only a matter of reeling in the largest fish in town or enjoying a fresh seafood feast, but also to bond together for the propagation of local traditions and the beauty that adorns the waters in Antigua.
