Antigua and Barbuda: Montserrat has been put on a Tropical Cyclone Alert over the approaching disturbance named AL98 as of August 10, 2024. As for the present status of the system, it is cited to be near the latitude of 12.0 north and longitude 40.0 West, about 1,498 miles southeast of Antigua.
People are encouraged to check frequently on the developments that may occur and comprehensive influences that may ensue.
The issue of a Tropical Cyclone Alert means as a primary purpose is to give general warning to the public that observations or warnings may be needed in the following days.
The present location and movement of AL98 is westward to west-northwestward at 15 to 20 mph across the central Tropical Atlantic. It is forecasted that the disturbance has a high possibility of becoming a tropical depression by the early to middle of next week. What is anticipated from the current profile of the system is that it will come close to, or possibly transit or cross, the Lesser Antilles within the next few days.
Considering its current movement, AL98 is forecasted that in the next two to three days it will be near Leeward Islands. This has led the officials to issue a warning that a tropical cyclone watch might be needed for Montserrat in the next 24 hours.
This implies that all people who live in these areas must act to prevent the worsening of conditions in their areas of residence. As has been said previously, authorities call on all inhabitants of Montserrat to complete their anti-hurricane measures and be prepared to activate them at any time.
This preparation involves protection of homes, stocking such items as food, water, clothing, and medical supplies and defining evacuation procedures in case of occurrence. Damaging winds, torrential rainfall, and hazardous waves accompanying the tropical cyclones put the residents’ lives in danger, so it is necessary for everyone to be prepared.
The arrival of Disturbance AL98 is a clear caution of the fluctuations that are characteristic of this year’s Atlantic hurricane season. For these reasons, it is imperative that the residents stay alert and observe all protocols concerning the system’s ability to strengthen into a more lethal tropical cyclone.
The officials and the meteorologists will be observing the system to give information if ever there occurs. To receive updates on AL98 and any changes it may bring along, the residents are advised to pay attention to news from authenticated sources.
