Antigua and Barbuda: Prime Minister Dr Gaston Browne, on behalf of the people and Government of Antigua and Barbuda, extended congratulations to the PM Andrew Holness-led Government and the people of Jamaica on the 60th Anniversary of Independence.
He recalled the history and mentioned that on 6 August 1962, the proud Jamaicans set off on a path inconceivable to those who had enslaved and colonized the courageous people of the Anglo-Caribbean’s largest and most populous island.
Capitalizing on United Nations Resolution 1514/XV of 1960, declaring colonialism unlawful, Jamaica chose a path fraught with challenges and high expectations 60 years ago.
In these past sixty years, the majestic people have shown their prowess in economic development, political maturation, excellent sporting greatness, and academic leadership that is the envy of universities globally.
While praising the country for performing exceptionally well in every aspect, Prime Minister Browne stated, “Jamaica is well-known, globally, for its outstanding performance in sports and as a place of beauty and great charm.”
Jamaica – a beautiful country, has been an inspiration to the countries of the Caribbean. The country’s role in sustaining CARICOM is very well-known and appreciated.
The upcoming 60 years will prove pivotal as our small island-states tackle the challenges related to global climate change as well as intensify the search for renewable energy alternatives.
The citizens and residents of Antigua and Barbuda join hands with the citizens and residents of Jamaica to engineer a sustainable future, the visionary use of might to crush freedom and free of injustice.
PM Browne added, “Congratulations on the 60th Anniversary, Prime Minister Holness and allow us to reiterate the assurances of my highest regard as well as esteem.”
