Antigua and Barbuda crosses margin of 1000 active COVID cases

Saint John’s: Antigua and Barbuda, on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, recorded a total of 419 fresh COVID-19 cases, with which the total number of active infections has surpassed the margin of thousand, having 1119 cases. As per the data shared in the report of the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Environment, 4 COVID-19 related deaths were reported at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.

At present, the death rate of Antigua and Barbuda stands at 126. Of the additional cases, there are a total of 16 persons who are hospitalized, whereas around 1103 individuals are in the isolation facilities. Out of the total hospitalizations, around two (2) severe and fourteen (14) mild.

The healthcare facilities processed 786 samples, out of which 419 tests results came positive. A total of 107 COVID-19 patients recovered from the contagious virus, taking the total toll of recoveries in Antigua and Barbuda to 5,197.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic emerged in the country, it has recorded a total of 6,442 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus as of January 26, 2022.

According to the report, there are a total of 2,839 persons in Antigua and Barbuda who are partially vaccinated by receiving their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. On the other hand, there are a total of 60,358 individuals who have taken their required number of the COVID-19 jabs and are now fully immunized against the deadliest pandemic.

The health ministry further urged the general public to come forward and take their jabs of the COVID-19 vaccine, as well as abide by the established health protocols and measures, such as – wearing masks, frequently sanitizing, maintaining a physical distance, and avoiding going to the public gatherings.
