Grenada’s star female cricketer, Afy Fletcher has achieved a huge milestone in her career by becoming the second highest all-rounder in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. She has been representing her nation since the age of 14 in cricket and has been continuing to bring laurels to her nation with her exceptional performance.
In the recently concluded World Cup 2024 held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Afy Fletcher has showcased her dominance throughout the entire tournament. She also became the third highest wicket-taker in the tournament.
She proved to be the crucial asset for her team, helping her team qualify for the semi-finals by playing a crucial role in their victory over England. Her best figures of 3-21 played a huge role in leading the team towards victory.
Though West Indies was not able to win the World Cup 2024, Afy Fletcher became the talk of town for her exceptional performance in the World Cup 2024.
Recently, Afy Fletcher returned to Grenada after her remarkable performance in the World Cup 2024. She was given a grand welcome at Maurice Bishop International Airport by the authorities of the country, marking her welcoming ceremony as unforgettable.
During her return to the country, Fletcher was presented with tokens of appreciation for her accomplishments on an international platform.
The Minister of Sports of Grenada, Delma Thomas congratulated Afy Fletcher and called her an inspiration for all women in cricket and sports in general. He said that Afy as a member staff of the Ministry of Sports, will be utilized as a mentor to other young women in sports.
He said that Fletcher has always represented Grenada with utmost pride and dignity. He also said that he is committed to provide all his support to her in every way to allow her fullest potential to be realised.
The Grenada Cricket Association also congratulated Afy Fletcher for her continuous achievements and breaking several records. With her exceptional performance in World Cup 2024 and other tournaments, Fletcher has also become the Female West Indies cricketer to take the most wickets in a single calendar year.
Fletcher has promised to continue to work hard for her nation and share her knowledge to the younger ones for the brighter future of sports sector of Grenada.
