40,000 Belizeans receives first dose of Oxford Astra Zeneca 

Belize: The Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister John Briceño, met in a regular session on 27th April 2021. In the meeting, It was announced that 40,000 Belizeans received their first dose of Oxford Astra Zeneca. 

Minister of the Public-Service, Constitutional & Political Reform Hon. -Henry Charles Usher informed the Cabinet that Usher wrote to the Joint Unions on 22nd April outlining the regime’s position.

Cabinet was acquainted by Hon. Michel Chebat, Minister of Health & Wellness, that to date, 40,000 Belizeans have got their first dose of the Oxford Astra Zeneca vaccination, which is in line with adminitration’s plan to guarantee that 70% of Belizeans who want to be vaccinated are vaccinated by September.

Talking about the coronavirus cases, 8 New Confirmed Cases, 5 New Recoveries, 1 New Death Reported and The Ministry of Health & Wellness has commenced its COVID19 vaccine campaign countrywide. 

The government of Belize stated, “When it’s your time, we urge you to get vaccinated. We also advise that even after getting vaccinated, persons are to continue wearing a face mask properly in public.”

Besides this, Cabinet approved further amendments to Statutory Instrument No. 33 of 2021. Cabinet gave its approval for Hon. Oscar Requena, Minister of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour and Local Government, to develop and execute a National Child Labour Policy to replace the existing 2009 policy. 

In addition, Cabinet also supported the request by the Minister to introduce amendments to the Labour Act, Chapter 279 of the Laws of Belize and for the ratification of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention in relation to labour administration and to present outstanding annual reports to the International Labour Office, which is in fulfilment of ILO Convention to which Belize is a signatory.

Finally, Cabinet welcomed the second half of the report from the Economic Recovery Advisory Committee and agreed to set up a number of ministerial subcommittees to review the recommendations of the advisory committee with a view to fast-track implementation of the recommendations.
