34-year-old Joel Castang killed in road mishap in WCD, Guyana
A 34-year-old pedal cyclist, Joel Castang, died in a fatal accident that took place at Den Amstel public road, West Coast Demerara, Guyana, on Monday.

Guyana: A 34-year-old pedal cyclist, Joel Castang, died in a fatal accident that took place at Den Amstel public road, West Coast Demerara, Guyana, on Monday.
It is to be noted that the accident occurred due to the collision of a motor lorry (GTT 4953) and a pedal cycle.
The car was driven by a 24-year-old, a resident of Meten-Meer-Zong, West Coast Demerara and the victim (now deceased) was riding a cycle. Joel Castang is a resident of Lot 55 Hibiscus Scheme Blankengburg, West Coast Demerara.
As per the information, the motor lorry was heading towards the west along the southern side of the public road. Subsequently, the pedal cyclist rode from South to North across the road, causing the lorry driver to swerve right.
Therefore, the front side of the lorry collided with the pedal cyclist. As a consequence, he fell under the lorry and was dragged some distance away.
According to the reports, the dead body of the victim was picked by the residents of the community. The body was taken to the Leonara Cottage Hospital. On reaching the hospital, the doctors on duty examined the body and pronounced dead on arrival.
Notably, the body is currently lying at the Ezekiel Funeral Home. It is waiting for a post-mortem examination.
Along with that, the authorities also conducted a breathalyzer test on the driver of the lorry and no trace of alcohol was found. The driver is still in custody, as per the information shared by the officers. He is assisting the authorities with the ongoing investigation.
Moreover, the information about the suspect has not been revealed yet. However, the authorities have promised that they will thoroughly investigate the matter.
Several residents of the community took to their social media accounts to express their views and extend condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. One person with a Facebook account, Shakwana Charles, commented, “Again, another accident, Lord have mercy.”
Another person with a Facebook account, Lakshmi Singh, commented the following: “Rip young man, my prayers and condolences with the entire family so sad.”
“At the rate of these road accidents – this country’s population will never meet #1m,” wrote a user named George Perry.
The citizens of the nation have requested the government to take stringent measures in order to reduce the risk of exposure to an accident, ensuring the safety and security of the citizens of the nation.
