A 31-year-old miner of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, Guyana drowned at the Chinese Creek back dam, Puruni River, in Region Seven on Tuesday.

Guyana: A 31-year-old miner of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, drowned at the Chinese Creek back dam, Puruni River, in Region Seven on Tuesday.

It is to be noted that the victim has been identified as Alexander Angoy. As per the information shared by the Police authorities, the victim and his 18-year-old cousin Yashua both decided to swim across the Puruni River to reach the victim’s camp. 

During the process of swimming across the river, Alexander went under the water. Meanwhile, his cousin, Yashua Angoy, managed to swim to shore. Notably, the cousins of the victim raised an alarm and informed everyone about the incident

The cousin also shared the information with Alexander Angoy’s mother, Hyachin Angoy, who also works in the Chinese Creek Backdam area. 

Moreover, a search investigation was conducted by the authorities on the day of the accident. However, their efforts to rescue Alexander Angoy went in vain. 

According to the reports, the Guyana Police Service again conducted a thorough search on 7th February. During the process of investigation, the officers discovered the motionless body of the victim, which was found and fished out of the Puruni River. 

The body was further examined by the police officials, but they did not find any mark of violence from the body. 

Various residents of the community took to their social media accounts to express their views on the matter and extended condolences to the friends and family of the deceased. 

One person commented, “Forces are real, and I don’t know when people will realize that. Don’t take your life for granted. It’s easy growing up in this world and to take almost everything for granted. RIP. Condolences to you and your family. Just tired of getting youths dying out every single day.”

“So sad my condolence to the family and friends rip,” wrote Sherran Camacho. 

Another person commented the following: “Heartbreaking, as a mother, I pray God strengthen you during this difficult time and comfort your heart. My sincerest condolences, RIP.”
