2500 pounds of waste removed from beach of Jamaica, aims to enhance environmental sustainability

Montego Bay, Jamaica: The management of Reggae Sumfest held an annual beach cleanup which resulted in the removal of 2500 pounds of waste from Catherine Hall, Montego Bay, Jamaica. This activity of removal of waste from the beach was conducted on Saturday 15^th June with a vision to promote environmental sustainability.

During their effort of cleanup, the authorities discovered 1475 pounds of plastic and over 1100 pounds of other wastes. The other wastes found from the beach includes, tyres, old clothes, furniture from both the beach line and ocean beds.

Several stakeholders and sponsors collaborated with the management for this significant initiative which outlines the unwavering commitment and dedication of Jamaica towards environmental sustainability and community involvement.

The coordinator of sustainability at Downsound Entertainment/Reggae Sumfest, Leeann Dunkley stated that this cleanup was an urgent need in order to promote healthy environment in Jamaica. He added that such efforts shed light on the team’s immense dedication towards elevating their island nation to greater heights. He further asserted that the significant step taken by the management towards cleaning up beach showcases their ongoing efforts towards protecting the beautiful coastline and environment of Jamaica.

“We are making crucial impact and promoting environmental stewardship,” noted Leeann Dunkley.

The Managing director of the Hardware and Lumber Group, Marcus Richards shared that this initiative has brought several volunteers together who are making continuous efforts for enhancing the environmental conditions of the island nation. He expressed gratitude on seeing so many people working towards keeping their surroundings neat and clean. He further shared about his plans to create green spaces and extend support to young individuals of Jamaica. He focused on enhancing education, health care and the environment sector to engage youngsters.

Deputy Mayor of Montego Bay, Dwight Crawford lauded the organizers of Reggae Sumfest and emphasised on guiding the future generation about the significance of environmental stewardship. He further noted that this project is very special for him as it will play a huge role in leading Jamaica towards growth and development.
