17-year-old killed in road mishap, confirms Bermuda Police

The Bermuda Police Services on Monday confirmed the identity of the 17-year-old Jeremiah Phillips, killed in the road mishap that occurred on Sunday, January 7, 2024.

While confirming the identity of the victim, Bermuda Police Services shared that the accident took place at around 3:30 am at Verdmont Road, just south of the junction with Verdmont Valley Drive, Smith’s.

At the time of the accident, the victim was riding his motorcycle, accompanied by another passenger, heading north at Verdmont Road.

While turning into a left-handed bend, his motorcycle was involved in a head-on collision with 3 other motorcycles which were headed in the opposite direction.

Jeremiah Phillips was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to the injuries, he sustained during the road mishap. Along with that, a 15-year-old male passenger accompanied by him is also admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of King Edward VII of the Memorial Hospital because of his serious condition.

Meanwhile, another 19-year-old man, who was involved in the accident travelling on another vehicle, was also taken to the hospital had also received medical treatment and was later discharged from the hospital.

It is to be noted, that the Bermuda Police Service has begun the probe in this case and is trying to reach the eye-witnesses or people who have any details or are concerned with this case. The BPS has also shared the contact details, adding that the people can either call PC Victor Fishington on 717-0836 or they can also extend their help by sending a message through email. While making the public appeal, the BPS added that anyone concerned with this case can speak with the police officer or can call the police number at 295-0011.

The news about the accident has received a massive response from netizens, they have extended their condolences towards the bereaved family. Sharing which one of the few comments read as “This is so heart heartbreakingly sad, so tragic, so young, SIP Jeremiah. Deepest Condolences to his family and friends, he will be in your hearts forever.”

While another person expressing grief said “Rest in perfect peace, sweetie. Condolences to your parents, family and your friends. Embrace your teenagers Bermuda, they need it.”
