13% growth recorded in stay-over arrivals for Dominica in 2024

Roseau, Dominica: The tourism industry of Dominica witnessed a significant growth of 13% in the arrivals of the visitors in comparison to the Financial Year 2022/2023. This figure has been unveiled by the Tourism Minister, Denise Charles Pemberton who stated that they are making continuous efforts in order to make Dominica, “a premier destination for all their travellers.”

While shedding light on the tourism stats, the Minister stated that the year 2023-24 has been a historic season for the Nature Island. She added that the country has registered a growth in the arrival of the visitors. As per the data, the arrivals recorded in the 2023-24 includes 425,155 which marks a surge of 15% over 2019, which is considered as the best tourism year for the country before COVID-19.

Moreover, the island nation has also witnessed immense growth of 18% in the stay-over arrivals from the countries like French, West Indies and USA. The tourism minister stated that such historic records shed light on the testament of the unwavering commitment and dedication of the authorities towards elevating the tourism sector to greater heights.

Minister Charles also reiterated her commitment to continue making efforts to open up diverse options for the visitors to prioritize Dominica as a top destination for their vacations. Also, Dominica is working on several projects in order to shape a brighter and prosperous future for the country.

The Minister stated that one of the most-awaited projects of the island nation is the Cable Car project in the Roseau Valley. She added that this project would be completed by the end of next year, which will play a huge role in bringing a large number of tourists to the country. The project has given employment to over 200 people, and currently, the work is ongoing on 15 towers. And, as per the reports, 100 people will be permanently employed when it is commissioned.

The Minister stated that the Cable Car’s operation will enhance the tourist experience in Dominica and generate increased revenue, particularly for the people in Roseau Valley.

She also talked about the Champagne Beach Development Project on which the government has made the investment of $1.7 million. This modern centre will feature vending units, changing rooms, lockers, spa services, restaurants, bars and open green spaces for recreation with a motive to enhance the overall experience of all the visitors.

The designs of the project have been made by focussing on making the sites more accessible and user friendly while maintaining the characteristics of their natural environment.

The tourism minister stated that there are a series of construction projects that are currently under process. All those projects are being implemented in the country in order to offer a plethora of experiences to visitors and make Dominica a leading sustainable tourism destination across the world.
