Trinidad and Tobago: MP for Oropouche West, Davendranath Tancoo called upon residents threatening by flooding during rainy season, to demand action from the Minister of Works and Transport.
MP Tancoo, in a Facebook post on his page today, advised residents to speak up and speak out. He stated that the floodgates at Tulsa Trace and Woodland in the Constituency of Oropouche West and in St John Trace in Avocat are in desperate need of repair.
As the country braces for the rainy season, MP Tancoo is of the view that large parts of his constituency will be flooded because these gates and associated pumps are in need of repair. These floods over the last few years have resulted in millions of dollars in damages to homes, businesses, large acreages of gardens, livestock as well as a significant risk to lives.
MP Tancoo said the Minister of Works and Transport is aware of the issue but has refused to answer questions about when the works will be started. Given COVID restrictions, the Oropouche West MP advised residents to protest in writing directly to the Minister and via letters to the editor, comments on the Minister’s social media pages and in various call-in programmes on radio and television.
