Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Minister of Sports, Samal Duggins represented St Kitts and Nevis at the Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting in Paris. He shed light on the importance of sports and the potential it holds in tackling non-communicable diseases.

While sharing the glimpses of the meeting, Minister Duggins expressed delight and stated that he had the esteemed honor of representing St Kitts and Nevis as Minister of Sports in Paris.

During the meeting, the Minister addressed everyone and shed light on the critical issue of tackling non-communicable diseases through sports and physical activity. He noted that he has emphasized how sports play a crucial role in fighting against NCDs like obesity, diabetes and heart disease.

He added that sports not only improve physical health but also helps in boosting the mental well-being, reducing stress and strengthening community bonds. Therefore, he calls for a united effort by all the people of the world with a vision to address this challenge.

He highlighted the importance of collaboration across borders and between different sectors so that they can help each other in sharing resources and expertise. Minister Duggins asserted that with unity and brotherhood, they can create impactful and sustainable initiatives that benefit everyone.

“Together, we can make a significant impact on the health and well-being of our citizens,” noted Minister Samal Duggins.

Also, three athletes from St Kitts and Nevis will be participating in the Paris Olympics 2024. The participants who will be competing include, Zahria Allers-Liburd in the Women’s 100 meter, Troy Nisbett in the Men’s 50m Freestyle and Naquille Harris in the Men’s 100m.

The Minister of Sports extended congratulations and best wishes to all these athletes who will be competing in the Olympics 2024. He stated that he is eagerly anticipating their performances and is optimistic that all these athletes will represent the island nation with excellence and will make all their countrymen proud of their achievements.
