Bridgetown: The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) monitored a large plume of dust haze in the eastern Atlantic, due to which skies are supposed to appear yellowish during the day. The authorities cautioned elderly adults and children to adopt precautions.
According to meteorologists, no significant advisory or warning has been issued for the island at the moment, but considering the current conditions, a dust haze advisory is likely to be issued on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning.
The BMS reports mentioned that the people of Barbados may experience a yellow-colour skies during the day. The dust haze has a severe effects on the people, especially the elderly adults and children.
There is a possibility of a reduction in the visibility due to dust haze all over the island and in the marine areas. The BMS officials predicted that these conditions will persist this week and can move to next week as well.
The population of Barbados are advised to keep monitoring the BMS, DEM and GIS websites, and their respective social media pages to remain up-to-date for further information. Moreover, the citizens are encouraged to follow the advice provided by the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
Notably, the people are asked to practice the following measures to avoid sickness during these conditions.
- Individuals are encouraged to wear face masks or dust masks when going out from their homes
- The people suffering from any respiratory illness including asthma or sinuses should stay at their homes.
- A person should immediately visit a hospital or medical facility when find first sign of difficult breathing.
- One should cove the water sources such as wells, wate storage ponds to avoid contamination.
- The citizens should keep inhalers, antihistamines and steroid nasal sprays with them.
- The residents should turn on the air purifier, running at a high level.
The authorities are implementing every possible measure to combat the problem of dust haze however, the people are also suggested to adopt necessary precautions.
In addition, the people of Barbados are likely to experience party cloudy weather with few brief isolated light showers on Wednesday. A ridge pattern will remain dominant across the country.
