Jamaican Diplomat Alexander Williams welcomed by King Charles at Buckingham Palace

Kingston, Jamaica: Jamaican High Commissioner Alexander Williams received a warm welcome from King Charles III at Buckingham Palace as he arrived in the United Kingdom on Thursday. He was accompanied by his wife, Carol Watson-Williams. 

However, the meeting was held even with Prime Minister Andrew Holness’s plans to remove Charles as a Head of State. The government has announced the preparation of the ‘Constitution of Jamaica (Amendment of Section 61) Bill.”

They started the first step of restructuring their constitution during the legislative process in February. As the King was suffering from cancer and Buckingham Palace made it public through an official announcement, he postponed all public-facing engagements. 

His treatment of an undisclosed form of cancer is ongoing, but he has been carrying out audience and desk duties behind the palace walls.  

PM Holness is sticking to his plans to make his country a republic as he believes establishing the nation as a republic will be a priority in the coming years. High Commissioners and ambassadors based in London will meet with the King after assuming their roles.

Additionally, a 75-year-old monarch has been diagnosed with cancer, as announced by Buckingham Palace in February. The form of cancer or at what stage it was found is yet to be known. 

The crown head of Great Britain is suggested to postpone his public-facing duties due to sickness. The King extended a vote of thanks to his medical team for their untiring dedication during his hospital procedures. However, during treatment, he continues to undertake State business and paperwork as usual. 

“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual”, stated Buckingham Palace. 

The news of the monarch’s illness shook the atmosphere of Britain as he has generally enjoyed good health throughout the years.
