Jamaica: Mother’s Day turned tragic for a Clarendon woman whose 29-year-old son drowned in the Rio Minho River in Jamaica on Sunday. The son is said to be struggling with mental illness.
The 29-year-old son, known with the name of Demar Cole had been fighting with an unsound mind since 2012.
The May Pen police officers shared that the residents of the nearby area informed the police around 9:00 AM that a body was floating in the Rio Minho River. The police authorities reached the site and managed to get the body out of the water body near May Pen Bridge, where it was found.
The authorities immediately took Demar Cole to the hospital for medical treatment, but after examination, the staff on duty declared Cole dead.
The residents even informed Cole’s mother about the incident, she instantly reached the place of incident. Upon reaching the site, the mother Sonia Jones could not control her emotions and started crying.
She said screamingly that, it’s sad because I lost my son on Mother’s Day. This is my Mother’s Day gift and it’s tragic. If it is Cole’s time to go, I can do nothing about it, it has already happened and I can’t return his breath, she said.
Sonia Jones, the mother said it was not normal for Cole to go to the river. She found out that the people found Cole near the riverside. It was tough for her to believe as he used to always pass by and look down and never go down near the river. “So I am still wondering what was on his mind and what really happened with him,” the mother grieved.
The mother sharing about her faith in God added, the God is the one that gives and takes away. Its God’s choice, nothing can be done about it. All I can do is mourn about his death. “I still thank God because he is life giver and life taker” the mother said.
Jones, while mourning, said that her son was born in the month of May and would turn 30 later this month.
The police authorities said that the investigations are still ongoing in the matter.
