The death toll of Palestinians in Gaza has risen to more than 30,000 since the start of the Israel-Hamas war, as more than 100 people were killed by Israeli troops while waiting for aid in Gaza City on Thursday. The city received food, the first major aid delivery to the area in a month.
During the aid, the Israeli soldiers opened fire when people were collecting the flour and canned goods off of trucks, as reported by the hospitals.
However, the Israeli soldiers refused to provide any information or statement about the role of troops in the incident.
On October 7, 2023, Israel launched its first sea, air, and ground attack on Gaza City and surrounding areas in the north of the enclave in response to a Hamas attack. Due to such attacks, the areas suffered many losses. This area has become isolated during the dispute.
Since the Israeli military is not cooperating with agencies, it is resulting in difficulty in delivering humanitarian aid to most parts of Gaza. Furthermore, ongoing hostilities and the breakdown of public order have made it nearly impossible to provide assistance to residents.
According to the UN reports, it has been reported that 2.3 million Palestinians are suffering from starvation. More than 80 percent of people have fled their homes due to scarcity of food and other necessary resources.
Kamel Abu Nahel, one of the victims of the shooting, shared the incident of Israeli strikes. He said that he went to the site of distribution as he received information about the food delivery. Before that day, the conditions were very bad as people were used to eating animal food. “We’ve been eating animal deeds for two months,” added Nahel.
He further said that the Israeli militants started firing on the crowd, due to which people scattered and hid under the cars. As soon as the firing stopped, they rushed to the trucks, but unfortunately, the soldiers again started shooting. He was shot in the leg and fell down, and then a truck rapidly passed over his leg.
As per sources, dozens or hundreds of people were wounded and lying on the ground when the medicines arrived at the scene.
Fares Afana- head of the ambulance service at Kamal Adwan Hospital, said that so many people were injured that the ambulance went short. Due to this, victims were carried to the hospital through donkey carts.
Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qidra said that in addition to at least 104 deaths, about 760 people were injured. The Health Ministry described it as a “massacre”.
