International Bill fishing tournament commenced in St Lucia

St Lucia, the annual Republic International Bill fishing tournament began on 17th October,2023 at the IGY: Rodney Bay Marina. Thirteen boats were signed in this tournament with a hope to break the twenty-seven-year-old record of 700-pound catches of fish so that they can acquire a position in the record book for the years to come.

The St Lucia Game Fishing Association works  in unison with the IGY Rodney Bay Marina. That is why they annually host this tournament at IGY Rodney Bay Marina. Such tournaments play a vital role in promoting fishing tourism. It is pertinent to note here that this is one of the greatest sportfish events in the Caribbean region.

The St Lucia Game Fishing Association is a non-profit organisation which is committed to the conservation of game fish. Through their collaboration with other agencies, they look forward to working with local anglers in order to attain sustainable development.

Fishermen from various countries such as the United Kingdom, United States, Antigua, Martinique, Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados along with the Saint Lucia, the host country participate in this competition. 

The last Bill Fishing tournament was held in 2019. This year, the tournament is returning and it is undergoing starting from  16th to and concluding  on 20th October 2023.

For that, the Minister of Youth Development and Sports extended full support through an Alternative Sports program towards the development of the Game Fishing Industry.

Throwing light on Saint Lucia’s fishing destination, it is  considered as one of the best destinations for fishing. 

Saltwater Adventures hosts namely: Bill Boyce, ESPN, IGFA have rated the country as one of their favourite fishing destinations after they filmed sports fishing shows twice in Saint Lucia.

Saint Lucia shores boast of drop offs into deep water which begin beyond the half a mile mark. In their peak season of great tropical conditions, various fishes get activated in water namely: Wahoo, Dorado, Yellowfin tuna. It also includes the King of Fish, the great Blue Marlin and Sailfish.

The highly anticipated 25th edition of St Lucia Bill fishing tournament, in their silver jubilee they presented more than 100k as well as a Car in prize.
