Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to receive the highest honor of Barbados: the Freedom of Barbados, on November 30, 2024. This ceremony is in observance of the 58th independence jubilee of Barbados, as well as the third year of the country being a republic.
The event will take place at the historic Kensington Oval in Bridgetown at 8:00 a.m. This award shows the compassionate leadership of the Prime Minister Modi and the most important, his impactful role during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Indian PM Modi’s leadership led India to donate Covishield vaccines to Barbados to ease out the problems caused by the pandemic in the island. That gesture apart from serving the noble purpose of saving lives also reduced the social and economic impact of the global health crisis.
Barbados’ government continues to refer to PM Modi’s actions as unprecedented in terms of kindness and humanity noting that there can be no further example than the speed at which the Indian leader intervened when Barbados was perhaps at its lowest moment.
The timing of this honor corresponds to Barbados’ commemoration of its sovereignty as well as its transition to republic status. It also affirms the willingness of the country to build more strong linkages in the global context.
The venue of the event is the Kensington Oval which has richness of culture and history that will serve as an appropriate setting for this historical event. It also raises the status of the award for it is usually awarded where a radical change and a special contribution to the development of Barbados and its people has been made.
This award also shows the growing relationship of the India and Barbados. This is the fact that India is now becoming a world leader and its stands in the support of small island countries, particularly through introduction of vaccine diplomacy.
Accepting this honor, Prime Minister Modi reiterated the image of a won statesmen, who cares about the fate of developing countries.
As Barbados is all set to be a part of this milestone celebration, the bestowment of the Freedom of Barbados upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi marks a significant step of appreciation, global bond, and fortifying a more secure tie between the two nations.
