The Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica is to honour the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi with the highest acknowledgement of the island nation, Dominica Award of Honour. This bestowing of honour is a testament to the countless contributions made by the government of India towards the welfare of the island nation as well as strengthening their long-standing relations.
As per the details, the award will be presented to PM Narendra Modi by Dominica’s President Sylvanie Burton during the highly-anticipated India-CARICOM summit. This summit has been scheduled to take place in Georgetown, Guyana from 19th – 21st November, 2024.
This summit is a great platform for delegates of both India and the CARICOM regions to exchange significant dialogues on several areas including, climate change, disaster response and many more. All these discussions are aimed at making several efforts with a vision to lead both the respective regions towards sustainable growth and development.
While shedding light on presenting the highest national honour to PM Modi, the Prime Minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit stated that it is a way of expressing his gratitude to the leader who has been making waves across the world.
PM Roosevelt Skerrit referred to PM Modi, as the pillar of strength for Dominica during their challenging times. According to the reports, the Indian Government extended a huge help to Dominica during COVID-19 pandemic by donating them with 70,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
According to the reports, the transportation of these doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine was made possible with the crucial support extended by St Kitts and Nevis representative Gurdip Dev Bath, who has an origin from India. Dev Bath managed the transportation of more than 1 lakh AstraZeneca vaccines which were delivered to several nations of Caribbean region, during the tough times of COVID-19 pandemic.
This thoughtful gift presented by PM Modi to Dominica helped the island nation to a great extent limited not to just the country but also the Caribbean neighbours as whole.
The Dominica’s Award of Honour also symbolises the outstanding and exceptional contribution by PM Modi to the growth of India-Dominica relations and for his distinguished service to the island nation and its citizens in various areas.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, Dominica has received immense support in vital areas including, healthcare, education and information technology which outlines the commitment of the leader towards fortifying the relationship between both the nations.
Along with that, PM Modi has also played a significant role in promoting the agendas of Dominica such as climate resilience-building initiatives and sustainable development on the international platform.
The Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit recognized the countless and valuable contributions by PM Modi and thanked him for always being a true partner and standing in solidarity with the island nation.
Moreover, PM Narendra Modi also accepted the offer to receive the honour and shed light on the significance of crucial collaboration between both the counties. The Prime Minister said that this partnership will play a significant role in helping both the nations overcome unforeseen challenges such as climate change and geopolitical conflicts.
PM Modi further reiterated his commitment and ensured to continue to work alongside Dominica and the Caribbean region in addressing all those issues which hinder the growth of both the nations.
Long-standing relations between Dominica and India
The Commonwealth of Dominica has been enjoying cordial bilateral relation with India since the diplomatic relations established in 1981. Since then, both the nations have signed several MoUs, aimed at fostering prosperity between the countries.
This honour by Dominica to Indian PM Narendra Modi reflects a much-enhanced relation that can be formed between the countries.
