Guyana: President Dr Irfaan Ali visited the Demerara Harbour Bridge (DHB) to get an update on the progress of repairs to DHB, which sustained structural damage on Saturday morning as a result of an impact from a fuel tanker.
The President thanked the workers for responding instantaneously and working assiduously and “around the clock” to get the bridge repaired in the shortest possible time.
The Demerara Harbour Bridge is rendered inoperable after a vessel, MV Tradewind Passion, collided with the bridge. The officials from the government and private sector and the ministers have been jointly working to restore normalcy as soon as possible. The Labour Ministry of Guyana has assured that an assessment is ongoing to determine the level of damage; the public will be updated as soon as the assessment is completed and the level of damage is determined.
Following a media conference on Friday, Minister of Public Works Bishop Juan Edghill has announced the formation of a Board of Inquiry into the incident crash into the Demerara Harbour Bridge by the MV Tradewind Passion, a ship consigned by Guyoil to transport fuel, which also carries a Panamanian flag. The formation of BOI was essential as the crash caused structural damages and rendered the bridge inoperable.
