Georgetown, Guyana: The Ministry of Health of Guyana, under the guidance and monitoring of the government, commissioned a Dental Clinic at the Mahaica Health Centre. The commissioning was organised on August 16, 2023 (Wednesday).
As the Mahaica Health Centre got a dental clinic, the Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony, accompanied by the Regional Health Officer, Dr Gavin Persaud, inaugurated the Mahaica Dental Clinic, situated in the compound of the Mahaica Health Centre, Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica).
According to the official update shared by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Guyana said, this clinic, which was rehabilitated at an approximate cost of GY$2M, is expected to benefit the residents of Mahaica and its surrounding communities.
Reportedly, services such as dental cleaning, fillings, and surgeries, such as tooth impaction, will be provided on Mondays – Thursdays from 8:00 am to 04:30 pm and on Fridays from 8:00 am – 03:30 am.
As per the official statement, during his briefings, Minister Anthony stated that with the Ministry’s effort to expand the range of services being provided within the health sector, dentistry is one aspect that most health centres across the country will be able to offer soon.
Further, he added that the Ministry aims to provide more patient education to reduce the number of tooth extractions being done.
“In the case of dentistry, we hope that we can do more prevention, rather than extraction, and hopefully one of the things that we’ll be able to offer here is patient education”, Dr Anthony stated, as per the update by the Ministry.
Following the league of providing all the possible medical facilities earlier, the Ministry of Health handed over around GY$3.2 Million in motorcycles to various regions to boost service delivery. These vehicles were brought under the project of Regional Health Services and the National Tuberculosis Programme.
