Guyana: Menty granted $1M bail after causing death by dangerous driving

Georgetown, Guyana: Gladwin Joseph alias “Menty” released on $1M bail after he was charged with the offence of causing death by dangerous driving, contrary to Section 35 (1) of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act Chapter 51:02.

Notably, the victim has been identified as 30-year-old Julius Andrew Adams, called “Greg.” As per the information, on Wednesday, 24th January, the accused was driving a motor car PYY 8713 on Citrus Grove Main Access Road Port Kaituma, Region One, in the North West District (NWD), where the accident took place.

As per the reports, it is still not clear yet how the accident took place, but the victim received multiple injuries from it. Subsequently, he was taken to the hospital, where he was provided with the best medical facilities. However, Julius Andrew Adams succumbed to his injuries.

It is to be noted that the accused, Gladwin Joseph, was presented before Dylon Bess, who read the charge to him and was granted bail in the sum of $1 million. The case of Gladwin Joseph was represented by attorney-at-law Bernard DaSilva.

However, his bail was objected to by the prosecutor, and the matter has been adjourned till now. The next hearing will be conducted on 14th March 2024 for disclosure.

Various residents of the community took to their social media accounts and shared their views on the matter. One person with a Facebook account, Jacqueline Charlie, commented, “Don’t worry, he took a loved one away from his family with his careless driving and that same car will take his life one day. It is just time. God, don’t forget your wickedness.”

“Left the guy who hit down. His time is going to come. More seriously, what goes around does come around,” wrote Roxana Francis.

Another person with a Facebook handler Assyria Ash Romascindo commented the following: “That’s the normal thing in the country. But when they find you with drugs, even a small amount, they will jail you.”
