Guyana man arrested for possessing 23.4 kgs marijuana

Guyana: A man was arrested for the offence of possessing 23.4 kgs of marijuana with a street value of GY$8.4 M on Tuesday, 6th February 2024. 

It is to be noted that the suspect has been identified as Romario Stoll, resident of Lot 229 Charity Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast, Guyana. 

As per the information shared by the authorities, the Customs and Anti-Narcotics Unit of Guyana conducted an operation at Walton Hall, Essequibo Coast. The officers stopped a motor vehicle driven by Romario Stoll. Notably, he was the only occupant sitting in the car.

Subsequently, Guyana police officers searched the motor vehicle and found 40 brick-like parcels. The parcels were wrapped with brown scotch tape. The parcels contained various things, which included a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis

The officers also held a search at Lot 229 Charity Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast, resulting in the discovery of an additional twenty brick-like parcels. The parcels contained various things, including a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis. 

Therefore, the suspect, Romario Stoll, was arrested and taken to the headquarters of the Customs and Anti-Narcotics Unit, where the narcotics found in the motor vehicle were tested. The cannabis was determined to be foreign marijuana, which is also known as “Creepy.”

The cannabis was later weighed, and it amounted to 23.4 kgs with a street value of GY$8.4 M. 

Various residents of the community also took to their social media accounts and shared their views on the matter. One person with a Facebook account Holly John commented, “So many persons in favour of this lifestyle. But when they smoke it up and kill people or injure people, it is a different story. The money is nice, yes, but is the money worth it at the expense of our people’s mental health. This and alcohol continue to cause havoc in our society.”
