The oldest citizen of Grenada island – Leonora Massima Noel, lost her life to the deadliest COVID-19 mutant on Friday after living for 119 years.

Grenada: The oldest citizen of Grenada island – Leonora Massima Noel, lost her life to the deadliest COVID-19 mutant on Friday after living for 119 years.
Prime Minister of the island country – Dr Keith Mitchell, expressed his condolences to the family of Noel and cited that, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Leonora Massima Noel, who died this morning in Carriacou. At 119, she is believed to be Grenada’s oldest citizen. I extend sincere condolences to her family and friends.”
Following the statement, PM Mitchell asserted in his Facebook post, “It is unfortunate that we are losing so many of our senior citizens to this dreaded disease. They are among the most vulnerable, and we have to do our best to protect them from this virus. I pray that Sister Leonora finds eternal peace.”
“My condolences also, to all the families of the many other Grenadians who have now lost their lives due to COVID-19.”
About Leonora Massima Noel –
She was born in Venezuela but moved to Carriacou – an island dependency of Grenada – at a young age.
Noel celebrated her birthday on 10 December 2020. Various government officials were present at her birthday celebration that includes -island nation’s Minister for Carriacou and – Petite Martinique Affairs & the Local Government – Kindra Maturine-Stewart, as well as some staff from the – Ministry’s Department of Social Development.
Queen Elizabeth also bestowed the supercentenarian in the year 2016.
Though it is argued that Noel is the – “oldest person alive”, there are no official documents to back the claim as her date of birth is unknown.
Noel, while in an interview with a media house, talked about her diet cited that it mainly includes coo-coo (cornmeal), fish as well as other organic meals.
Noel is 4 years older than – Charles Edward James – Jamaica’s oldest citizen, who passed away in September 2020.
