Around 27 families in Grenada received keys to their new prefabricated homes by the Government in a special ceremony held on Tuesday.
The homes were completed with help of a Trinidad and Tobago based organisation named “Hands That Serve”.
Features of new prefabricated houses
These new fully furnished 3-bedroom homes include diverse facilities such as bathroom and supplies, beds, stoves among others.
All these facilities equipped in the house shed light on the commitment of the authorities towards providing a comfortable and enhanced standard of living to the families of Grenada.
Crucial Support by ‘Hands That Serve’
Over 100 volunteers from the organization are presently in Grenada helping in installation of the houses. Reportedly 10 homes at the new Dumfries housing site and the other 17 on private lands.
PM Dickon Mitchell acknowledged the help provided by the organization and extended his deepest gratitude to all the volunteers who brought the vision to life.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to the volunteers from the Trinidad-based organisation Hands That Serve, whose dedication and hard work have brought this vision to life,” said PM Mitchell.
The Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government- Tevin Andrews also expressed his satisfaction.
He added that the construction of these new prefabricated houses highlights their determination to overcome all the challenges caused by the aftermath of the disastrous Beryl in July 2024.
He thanked the organization for their immense support towards their vision of rebuilding and restoring Grenada and Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
Restoring hope for the future of Grenada
Shedding light on the handing-over ceremony, PM Mitchell said that this is more than just housing.
He added that this ceremony underscores their commitment and efforts towards restoring hope and building stronger communities for the future and welfare of the people of Grenada.
The Prime Minister added that they are continuously making efforts with a vision to turn their tides towards recovery. For the same, he also mentioned the strength of their people who have been extending their support to help them rise stronger and grow better.
