Grenada CBI Unit to sponsor CARIFTA Games 2024

St. George, Grenada: The Citizenship by Investment Unit (CBI) of Grenada handed over a cheque amounting to $75,000 to sponsor the CARIFTA Games 2024. The games will take place in the country from March 30, 2024.

The sponsorship was handed over to the Grenada Athletic Association on Wednesday, 17th January 2024. The CBI unit promises to elevate youth development by funding the CARIFTA Games 2024.

It is to be noted that a cheque presentation ceremony was held on the said day at the Grenada Olympic House, where CBI was announced as the platinum sponsor of the highly awaited 2024 CARIFTA games.

Grenada Olympic House symbolises the unity and shared aspirations of Grenada’s athletic endeavours.

Moreover, a ceremony was attended by many key stakeholders, which included representatives from the Grenada Citizenship by Investment Unit and the Grenada Athletic Association.

Rea Burke, the Communication officer of the Grenada Citizenship by Investment Unit, while expressing her excitement, stated that “she is thrilled to be part of the CARIFTA Games and its overarching mission.”

While shedding light on CBI being the sponsor, she said that “this is more than just a sponsorship; it reaffirms our commitment to transforming the lives of the youth in the region and supporting the advancement of the nation’s sporting prowess.”

Such games are an excellent opportunity for the athletes to promote a culture of perseverance, determination and excellence.

The CARIFTA games have given audiences a huge list of world and Olympic champions. The list includes some key players such as Grenada’s Kirani James, Alleyne Francique, Anderson Peters, Lindon Victor, Jamaica’s Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Price, St Kitts and Nevis’s Kim Collins and many others.

This alignment of the CARIFTA Games, a premier regional athletic event with the Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Unit of Grenada, aims to create a long-lasting impact on the lives of youth athletes.

The CBI Programme of Grenada asked all the citizens and stakeholders to join hands in extending their support to the CARIFTA Games. Through the unwavering support and collaboration of the investors, the games will likely play a pivotal role in promoting the holistic development of regional youth of the island nation.

The residents of Grenada shared their opinions on this cheque presentation ceremony through their social media accounts. One person with a Facebook handle, Jennifer Gibbs, commented, “This is an investment in the athletic development of the youths. This could transform some lives.”

CARIFTA Games 

The CARIFTA Games was founded by the Caribbean Free Trade Association. It is the annual sporting event, which includes various athletic competitions. The competitions include track and field, spring races, hurdle races, throwing and relay events, middle-distance track competitions, etc. The first CARIFTA Games were conducted in the year 1972.

The 51st edition of the CARIFTA Games will take place in Grenada. The events will be conducted from 30th March to 1 April 2024. The games are scheduled to take place at Kirani James Athletic Stadium. Before 2024, Grenada hosted the Youth athletics championship twice. This will be the third time that Grenada will host. The last time the island nation hosted the championship was in 2016.

The country has secured victory against Trinidad and Tobago in the bid to host the games. Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell extended gratitude and said that the hosting of the tournament will uplift the sports sector of the country and enhance its tourism appeal.
