Jamaica: Jamaica started a new two-week curfew Wednesday to slow the immediate spike in COVID-19 cases.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness declared the curfew will last from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am each day.
The prime minister also confirmed during an address to lawmakers Tuesday that while curfews are known to be efficient, restricting activities and movement is also costly to the administration.
Under the latest restrictions, the public meetings limit will be decreased from 15 people to 10 people through February 24.
The prime minister declared the restrictions after first telling Parliament that just over 1,900 people contracted coronavirus in Jamaica in the past week.
According to Johns Hopkins University COVID Resource Center, PM Holness also announced hospitalizations are up across the island.
So far, Jamaica has verified 17,298 infections and 358 deaths.
On the other hand, Prime Minister of Jamaica Andrew Holness congratulates persons who are victorious in the Office of the Prime Minister 2021 Calendar Competition.
Furthermore, he added, The competition is dedicated to giving our upcoming artists a platform, who are not fundamentally professionals, but persons who have completed a high level of craftsmanship to support our economic expression.
Each artwork was progressive and inspiring, projecting peace, positivity, and elevation, capturing the theme: “Our Unique Jamaica.”
Jamaica is also facing a scarcity of Marijuana. Due to heavy rains and an increase in local consumption and fewer cannabis farmers results from the scarcity of marijuana.
According to Triston Thompson, “It’s a cultural embarrassment,” a consulting and brokerage firm for the country’s nascent legal cannabis industry.
However, India donated its vaccine to Barbados and Dominica. Prior, Barbados and Dominica gave their vaccines to St Lucia to defeat coronavirus.
The upsurge in a spike of coronavirus cases in Jamaica indicates the threat of lethal virus in the nation. It is a threat, and the current government should manage the situation efficiently.
