The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) shared that the flash-flood watch has been discontinued with an immediate effect. The areas involved in central, eastern and north-eastern districts were under the threat of this advisory.
As per BMS, a flash-flood watch is issued when there is heavy rainfall forecasted in a short period of time, which generally counted to less than 6 hours. Such condition could result in the flash flooding within the concerned areas.
The districts which were under the Flash Flood Watch are as follows,
– St Thomas
– St John
– St George
– St Andrew
– St Joseph
The major drawback of this condition would be a soil erosion on exposed land surfaces, medium possibility of significant flooding which might result in runoff from higher elevations, adjustments to water levels of existing water bodies such as ponds etc. and deposition of water on roads and fields at the foot of hills and coastal roads.
The residents were cautioned by the weather reports and they were also suggested to expect possible moderate to significant rainfall on the mentioned areas.
Weather Update
BMS shared that the people of Barbados may experience the mix of sunshine and clouds with the occasional brief scattered light showers, mainly during the early afternoon over the Eastern Parishes.
In the other parts of the country, it might be remained sunny. As per synopsis, a surface to low-level trough is affecting the island.
Winds Forecast Information
According to the BMS weather reporters, a light north-north-westerly to north-north-easterly breeze is forecasted at around 10 km/ hour, which can be considered to be 6 mph. However, there is a 60 per cent possibility of this forecast.
Furthermore, there is no significant dust haze recorded by the reporters. The Barbados Meteorological Services ensured the people of Barbados that they will issue an advisory if such condition again fall in the country.
