First consignment of COVID-19 vaccines arrives in Belize

Belize: A donation of 1,000 Oxford Astrazeneca COVID-19 vaccines arrived this previous morning at the Philip Goldson International Airport by cargo flight. 

Dr. Melissa Diaz Musa and Dr. Julio Sabido got the donation on behalf of the Ministry of Health & Wellness.

Govt of the Belize Press Office stated, The Ministry is very excited about this first consignment of the COVID-19 vaccines donated to Belize. This will allow for the commencement of the vaccination of Belize’s frontline health workers early next week. The vaccines are currently in storage at the National Vaccine Storage Facility at Western Regional Compound in Belmopan.

The Minister of Health and Wellness, Hon. Michel Chebat expressed his appreciation for the donation given to Belize by the Government and the people of Barbados.

A press conference to share more information on the vaccine donation and rollout is scheduled for Monday, March 1, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. The press conference will be hosted by Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño, along with the Minister of Health and Wellness, Hon. Michel Chebat, and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Hon. Eamon Courtenay.

PM Johnny Briceno wrote, “First Vaccines are here! The fight is still not over and we must remain vigilant and aware that at this stage it is just as important to practice the guidelines and protocols set in place.”

Furthermore, he added, “We must not for a moment allow this virus even a chance to become rampant again. God bless all of you and together we will fight for one another.”

After our first 100 days in office, our fight against Covid-19 proves successful; however, we must be as precautious as ever to defeat this lethal virus. 

A resident said, “Let’s hope we get the elderly vaccinated after front-line workers we’ve lost too many.”
