Guyana: A fire outbreak at Lot 6 East Half Section ‘A,’ Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara, resulted in the destruction of a two-storey wooden and concrete building. The reason behind the cause of the fire is not known, but the officials have requested the citizens to take precautionary measures to enhance their safety and security.

According to the information, as soon as the fire department received a call about the incident, they took an immediate reaction by sending water tankers including, Water Carrier #18 from Melanie Fire Station, Water Tender #106 from Mahaica Fire Station, and Ambulance #21, along with their crew.

Upon arrival, they found a building owned by Chinese National Cheliezhu, located at Lot 3 Railway Embankment, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, engulfed in fire flames. The water carriers carrying 7950 liters of water played a huge role in extinguishing the blaze.

Following the massive fire incident, the building experienced several damages, which included the loss of 3 meters of louver windows and scorching on the easter side of the top floor external wall.

The Fire Service Department urged all the citizens to install fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, smoke detectors, sprinkler systems in homes and businesses, with the motive to curb fire incidents like this in near future. They also asked the administration to conduct workshops in order to guide the citizens about the precautionary measures to be used while using fire.

As per the details, no injury or death has been reported in this fire incident. Moreover, the authorities have also asked the people to be cautious the next time in order to avoid the devastating effects of such incidents.

Several residents of the community took to their social media accounts and expressed their views and opinions on the incident.

One person commented “thank God, people are safe, no one was injured in this incident. Now people to take care in future to avoid all these things.”

Another person commented the following “Such a terrible incident, it was, it is really necessary that workshops should be conducted to teach citizens about the safe usage of fire.”
