East Bank Demerara: 28-year-old woman held for possession of drugs

The accused was arrested for possession of drugs and identified as Jessica Lalmoni. She was a resident of Lot 938, 4th Field in Kaneville at East Bank Demerara.

Georgetown, Guyana: A 28-year-old woman was detained by the police for the possession of drugs in the East Bank Demerara. She appeared in Court on Tuesday and pleaded “not guilty” for the offence.

According to the reports, the accused was identified as Jessica Lalmoni. She was a resident of Lot 938, 4th Field in Kaneville at East Bank Demerara.

The sources revealed that the investigating officers were informed about a trafficking of drugs and they responded to the matter and conducted a thorough search for the suspect.

They managed to find Lalmoni and she was arrested for the possession of drugs on April 12. She was taken to police custody till April 16 as on Tuesday, she appeared at the Diamond Magistrates’ Court before Sunil Scarce.

During the court hearing, the charges were read to the accused and she was pleaded “not guilty” and ordered to detained in prison. The case was adjourned to May 31, 2024.

“Ppl knows the consequence of doing drugs and they still doing it for a few dollar more Go and work honestly and fear no one. The ppl who they are working for don’t have any problem. They are enjoying life”, commented another.

Additionally, the problem of drugs and narcotics is increasing rapidly in Guyana. Yesterday, the officials of the nation were executing a search for the suspect who dropped a haversack bag in the bushes and escaped the place.

The police revealed that the bag contained seeds, leaves and stems which were suspected to be cannabis. When the officers took the finding to the Vigilance Police Station, they weighed the items which turned out to be equal to 71 grams.

Noting this, it is one of the stances of such cases that are rising the Guyana. With rise in criminal activities, the authorities are urged to implement strict measures to combat the problem.
