The streets of Dominica came alive on Friday, 18th October, 2024 with vibrant colours as the citizens of the island nation adorned in traditional costumes and outfits, celebrated Creole Friday.
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development of Dominica, Melissa Poponne Skerrit shared the glimpses of herself dressed in national attire. She also encouraged everyone to wear cultural clothing to represent their rich heritage as they walked the streets to celebrate the day.
“Creole Friday today was absolutely gorgeous in the capital!! Such a pleasure seeing all of you in your cultural wear! I can’t wait to see what is in store for next Friday,” noted Melissa Poponne Skerrit.
Minister Melissa Skerrit also expressed excitement for the Creole Day and stated that she is looking forward to see the islanders don in their Creole dresses, where their outfits are inspired by lush flora, fauna, and rich, fertile soil of Dominica.
Notably, the Creole Day is considered as one of the highlights of the Independence season of Dominica. It is celebrated annually on the last Friday in October, where every citizen of the country dresses up in traditional wear, contemporary styles and variations to celebrate their Independence.
While shedding light on the Creole Friday, the Parliamentary Representative, Melissa Skerrit noted that it is vibrant as ever as it offers citizens and all the travellers to entertain and commemorate the fashion industry in the island nation.
Wob Dwiyet
Wob Dwiyet is a national symbol of Dominica which is also considered as a symbol of resistance and resilience. The citizens of the Nature Isle create new fashions with madras patterns, paying their tribute to the rich cultural heritage, celebrating Creole Friday.
Moreover, the Commonwealth of Dominica Division of Culture has also announced about hosting the 2024 National Miss Wob Dwiyet Pageant. It is a part of the activities for the 46th Independence of Dominica, celebrating beauty, fashion and glamour while celebrating the vibrant culture and traditions of the country.
As per the details, 7 girls have been announced to vie for the crown of the National Miss Wob Dwiyet Pageant. It is a great platform to celebrate the National Dress of Dominica and for the ladies to showcase their talent, abilities and glamour.
