Dominica’s nurses to benefit from ‘Nursing the Dream’ Project, announces Minister Melissa Skerrit
Minister of Housing Melissa Skerrit announced the ‘Nursing the Dream’ project for the Dominican nurses.

Roseau, Dominica: The Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development of the Commonwealth of Dominica – Melissa Poponne-Skerrit, felt delighted while announcing the ‘Nursing the Dream’ project for the Dominican nurses.
Under the project, houses will be presented to the nurses for their selfless commitment and dedication towards the treatment of the residents and citizens of the Caribbean country.
The details regarding the project were shared by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development during the National Budget 2023-2024 presentation in the month of July 2023.
The details about the same were shared by the Minister of Housing, who also serves as the Parliamentary Representative of Roseau. She stated, “‘Nursing the Dream’ is one of several programs announced by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development during the 2023-2024 fiscal year Budget Debate.”
According to the update shared by the government of Dominica and the Ministry, numerous benefits will be offered to the nurses under the Nursing the Dream – A housing programme for nurses of Dominica.
The Ministry mentioned that proper incentives and assistance will be provided to the nurses throughout the construction process of the homes.
Additionally, it informed that the healthcare workers (nurses) would be assisted in facilitating the acquisition of land at subsidized rates. Along with this, access to long-term affordable payment plans will be offered by the Ministry in collaboration with the government.
Suitable land for housing will be identified after thorough surveying to get the best possible financial deal. This step will be undertaken by the Ministry, along with the Divisions of Lands and Surveys, Housing and Physical Planning. Various prominent financial institutions will also participate in this step.
The Ministry of Housing also informed that it has been exploring the ways through which the beneficiaries can get relieved from the expenses related to survey costs and the title process, as well as development permits. “It will significantly reduce the financial obligations during the construction process,” the Ministry noted.
The nurses will also enjoy access to a range of pre-designed plans and architectural drawings for one, two and three-bedroom homes at no cost.
