Dominica to sign final contract for International Airport before May 31, 2021

Dominica's Prime Minister, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, has announced that a contract for the development and construction of an international airport will be signed before the end of May 2021.

Roseau: Dominica’s Prime Minister, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, has announced that a contract for the development and construction of an international airport will be signed before the end of May 2021.

The contractual agreement, which was reviewed by Cabinet earlier this week, will be signed by the Government of Dominica and Montreal Management Consultants Establishment Limited (MMCE).

“Well, Cabinet met on Wednesday 19 May 2021 to consider the draft principle agreement for the construction of Dominica International Airport. I must report that the Cabinet, with some amendments, approved the agreement to construct the international airport for Dominica. “And the agreement will be signed between the government of Dominica and Montreal Management Consultants to develop and construct the international airport, using the financing mechanism of the Citizenship by Investment program,” said Prime Minister Skerrit.

He noted that this has been a long-awaited project for Dominica over the past few decades.

“I believe this is an important step for the country. We have all been trying to build an international airport for our country since the 40s and 50s 60s and now we are well on our way to achieving this dream for Dominica. We look forward to signing this agreement by the end of May 2021 so that the next steps can be taken towards the realization of our international airport,” said the Prime Minister.

PM Skerrit further said that the government is optimistic that the international airport, when built, will benefit all sectors of the economy. “We are confident that the airport will be built so that we can be further assured of our continued economic and social development and progress. And to maintain the profits, we have made in our investments in our country through tertiary education, human resource development, tourism, the travel industry and also agriculture.”

PM Skerrit further encouraged all citizens to play their part as the country undertakes this massive investment.

“And so my hope and prayer is that we can all play our part in this country to ensure that the dream of the international airport is realized, and I am very humbled to be the leader of the country at the moment and with the hopes for the largest infrastructure project in the history of our country and one that will help define the future prosperity of our country Dominica,” added Prime Minister Skerrit.
