Dominica: PM Skerrit shares update on projects at Roseau Central constituency

Dominica: In this week’s episode of Annou Pale, released on March 20, 2022 (Sunday), Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit shared an update on the several ongoing projects in the Roseau Central Valley.

Prime Minister Skerrit, along with the parliamentary representatives and members of the cabinet as well as other government officials, visited the constituency on Thursday.

While underlining the trip to constituencies, PM Skerrit mentioned, “Our visits to the constituencies help us to better understand the needs of the people who live in our communities. This allows us to diverse more targeted interventions to improve your lives and solve the issues which may negatively impact your livelihoods.”

The project sites visited by Prime Minister and the team were – Copthall, Mount Prosper, Wotten Waven, Trafalgar and Fond Cani. PM added that they failed to extend their tour because of less time but were assured that they would visit the leftover constituencies in the upcoming weeks.

The Projects mentioned by the Prime Minister were –

PM Skerrit said the aim is to start a housing initiative in Trafalgar to provide safe, resilient shelter for residents. He said 12 apartments are already constructed, and beneficiaries will be shifted to their new homes before June 2022.

“We have settled the land; works will be started in the next couple of months to build additional housing in Trafalgar,” said PM Skerrit.

While emphasizing various other projects, PM Skerrit underlined the construction for an indoor basketball facility that would soon commence in the Roseau constituency; for now, the construction would have been halted due to bad weather conditions. He furthermore added that the government and sports facilities have been focusing on the advancement and upliftment of sports in the region.

He further shed light on the various road projects ongoing at Mount Prosper.

PM informed about the ongoing development projects in Laudant. In the region, the government has been developing the concept for a vending facility in a water raven to offer a better experience to visitors, Skerrit stated.

PM said, “I also give the green light to various road projects to begin in one prospect and made stops at projects at various stages of completion including the communist wall in a falconry area”, underscored prime minister.

Prime Minister further added that the government has been finding an appropriate location to find to establish various advancement projects in Laudant, considering it an important Dominican village.

He further exclaimed that various projects that will also serve as a disaster facility centre for training have been initiated; he added, “the road linking Copthall to Wotten Waven would also be constructed, which will further boost the tourism sector in the country.”
