Dominica confirms 32 additional cases of COVID

Roseau, Dominica: The Ministry of Health has shared the COVID-19 update report of December 8, 2021, as per which a total of thirty-two additional COVID-19 cases have been recorded, that takes the total toll of active cases to 398. 

All of the new cases have been found positive by Rapid Antigen Testing. In total, twenty-four patients recovered and were discharged on Wednesday. With this, to date, a total of 5,768 individuals fought bravely with the contagious mutant and are recovered. 

The data shown in the report further states that till December 8, 2021, forty-two people lost their lives to the deadliest virus in Dominica. 

Since the COVID-19 pandemic emerged in the island country, it has recorded a total of 6208 confirmed cases of the coronavirus. 

While 113,432 tests for the COVID-19 have been conducted by the healthcare facilities so far, out of which in total 30004 were RT-PCR tests and 83428 were the Rapid Antigen Test, the report of the health ministry further notes. 

The vaccination coverage rate of Dominica – 

According to statistics, there are a total of 29064 persons who have taken their first jabs of the COVID-19 vaccine in the island till December 8, 2021. 

On the other hand, about 27115 individuals are those who have obtained their required number of COVID-19 doses and are now fully immunized against the mutant. 

The government of Dominica has not implemented the policy of mandate vaccination, but it encourages the residents to remove their vaccine hesitancy and get themselves inoculated. 

World Health Organisation is repeatedly highlighting the significance of vaccination, noting that it is the sole way to defeat COVID-19.  

The Ministry of Health, Wellness and New Health Investment has provided COVID-19 helpline numbers for the general public.

Apart from this, the health ministry once again urged the public to strictly follow the COVID-19 health protocols such as – wearing masks, maintaining social distance and sanitizing frequently.
