Dominica: Attorney at Law Wayne Norde has recently announced that he is interested in contesting the upcoming general elections, announced by the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica – Roosevelt Skerrit.
In a statement, Dr Norde highlighted that calling of the election is constitutional and respects the election laws of the country. He also said that there is nothing in the judgement of the Caribbean Court of Justice which says free and fair elections cannot be held under the current system.
While showing disagreement with the decision of UWP, the attorney went on to say that the United Workers Party has not real and sensible basis for not contesting the elections and that their decision is not in the best interest of the country.
Earlier, Dr Irving Pascal, the spokesperson of the United Workers Party, asked the opposition supporters to contest the upcoming snap general election independently.
The country will see general elections on December 6, 2022 and the nomination day will be marked on November 18, 2022 (Friday). Following this, the opposition party – United Worked Party (UWP) decided to back-off without contesting in the general elections. PM Skerrit then lashed the party as a party with no leader, no policy, no philosophy, no friends – local or foreign – and no active presence in the villages or constituencies of Dominica.
