To shorten the distance between the diaspora societies and the loved ones they left back in their country. Digicel International provides a digital platform. Now the Digicel International and Digicel Foundation would be working together to enable a platform to collect the donation to help the families and the people in Haiti who had been badly affected by the 7.2 earthquake on August 14.
Digicel would be collecting the funds at the donation platform donations.digicelinternational.com. Digicel International has decided to collect donations up to a total amount of $10,000USD to provide assistance to the Haitians affected. Digicel International took the initiative to provide immediate relief to the people in the South of Haiti.
Christophe Justens, General Manager, Digicel International, said, “Digicel International is a bridge between the Haitian Diaspora and their family and friends back home. When tragic events like this happen, we want to provide direct support to the families in need and give the Haitian Diaspora a trusted channel to participate and stay connected with their loved ones. This unfortunate event affects a community that is close to our hearts, so we want to help provide immediate relief to those that needed it most.”
When visiting the website donations.digicelinternational.com, people will be able to choose from three non-profits to aid people affected in Haiti:
- Hope for Haiti is an organization that operates within 24 communities of the south of Haiti to enhance the quality of life, especially for children.
- Health Equity International is providing essential health services to the citizens of southern Haiti, particularly the most vulnerable.
- Fokal, a foundation, promotes the structures that are necessary for establishing a democratic, united society. It helps to raise funds for smallholder farmers associations, grassroots women’s organizations.
donations.digicelinternational.com will be operational as long as it would be necessary so that the most amount of help could reach those who are in need in Haiti.
Digicel International planned for providing 5 times more credit plus 5GB to any customer that sends any amount of Top Up to a Digicel number in Haiti until August.
