CPL 2023: Guyana Amazon Warriors win, Captain Imran Tahir thanks Indian spinner Ashwin
Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023 came to a historic conclusion and Guyana Amazon Warriors have lifted the trophy for the very first time.

Georgetown, Guyana: The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023 came to a historic conclusion and Guyana Amazon Warriors have lifted the trophy for the very first time. As the team celebrated its maiden victory, captain Imran Tahir expressed his thankfulness to Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.
Tahir, who played a pivotal role in the victory of the Guyana Amazon Warriors following the conclusion of the tournament, stated that he is full of gratitude to Ashwin for showing and having unwavering trust in his (Imran Tahir’s) captaincy skills and capabilities.
He outlined that he was having doubts about himself when he was appointed as the caption, but Ashwin’s belief gave him strength. Tahir also said that it was the Indian spinner who continuously motivated and assured him that he could lead the lead to the finals and clinch the trophy.
He was quoted saying, “I want to thank Ashwin from India. Before the competition, he told me that we could do it and win the CPL. Many people made jokes when I was made captain; thanks to them as well for motivating me.”

Guyana Amazon Warriors versus Trinibago Knight Riders:
Warriors won the final match of Caribbean Premier League 2023 by nine (9) wickets against Trinbago Knight Riders. The victory was bagged with 36 balls remaining. It is the first-ever victory of Guyana Amazon Warriors in this sporting event.
Along with the outstanding and mesmerizing leadership skills of South Africa’s Imran Tahir, the bowling spell by South Africa’s Dwaine Pretorius was another reason behind this win. Pretorius also won the title of “Man of the Match.”
The match was played at the National Stadium in Providence, Guyana and was enjoyed by many cricket lovers, including President of Guyana Irfaan Ali, Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips.
Following this victory, President Irfaan Ali took his social media and extended congratulations to the franchise, captain and the team.
“To the Guyana Amazon Warriors Franchise, management, Captain Imran Tahir and team, congratulations on nothing short of an exceptional tournament. You brought professionalism, teamwork, collective responsibility and commitment together to create this historic and memorable victory for Guyana,” he outlined.
Additionally, he mentioned that the joy and pride the team has brought to fans is immeasurable. As president, he spoke on behalf of all of the fans and by extension all Guyanese, “we are proud of you all,” he noted.
“I know the physical pain many of you endured, but with heart, passion, and love for your fans, you went beyond the boundaries of your bodies. I can assure you that all your fans celebrate each of you. Congratulations on behalf of all the people of Guyana,” Prez Ali added.
Along with this, PM Phillips mentioned that he was glad to witness the historic first victory of the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Republic Bank-sponsored final of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) on Sunday evening.
